Our frantic social life continues unabated ...
Bettye dropped down from Oklahoma City not long after we moved to North Texas in 2001, and we had our first visit in forty years. We had so much fun we decided to make such get-togethers twice a year affairs.

Bettye is well and busy these days. And, as always, the conversation picks up right where we left off last. But we do more than visit; we had never seen the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, and on one early trip, Bettye saw to it we rectified that oversight.

There's a lot to see, but nothing tops what simply takes your breath away as you walk in the front door .. the sculpture, End of the Trail, is huge and towers above all. (That's me, the tiny creature beneath the front hooves.) The Hall of Fame is world-class. See it if you can, and bring your walking shoes.
We gave Bettye a break and went to dinner with family on one trip up north.

John and Jean, Ramona's cousins and our Las Vegas cohorts, treated us to a wonderful evening, spent largely plotting our next rendezvous' at Binion's Downtown. Pay no attention to the sour puss on the left; we had a grand time, as we always do when we're with this pair!
All in all, we've had some wonderful visits, and plan to have many more.

During an earlier visit to OKC, I traveled to Tulsa, where I joined old friend Johnny Shannon, (r), as he was inducted into the Oklahoma Broadcaster's Hall of Fame. With John was, right to left, wife Jackie, and good friends Gene and Cheryl. It was recognition long overdue.

Mel and Stephennie were up for a weekend. We do go back a ways, and it was so great to see them. We had a wonderful visit. We did it all .. lunch at Hiway 1187 Cafe, a great show at the Grand Old Opera House at Granbury, finally brunch at Central Market.
We don't hear much from each other anymore. Guess that's normal, but I really hate it.

Sylvia and Ray stopped by on their way to Colorado. We miss them, too, big time, but we do see each other every so often, over tea and crumpets, in downtown Calvert!

Marlene and Carol drove up from Houston .. and they brought their ladders, paint brushes and old clothes. They were here, not only to spend a couple of nights in the guestroom .. but to paint it! It's gorgeous! Then, back they came in early September for Ramona's surprise birthday .. Thank you again, dear friends .. we hope you'll come to see us again very soon.

Some more old friends stopped by not long after we moved north. Don and Jan drove down from Oklahoma City. Shortly after their visit, they moved back down to Florida's West Coast. Not long ago, they moved back to Oklahoma City and we had great visits with them during our last trips north.
I received this from an old friend ..
THE POSITIVE SIDE OF LIFE
Living on Earth is expensive,
but it does include a free trip
around the sun every year.
How long a minute is
depends on what side of the
bathroom door you're on.
Birthdays are good for you;
the more you have,
the longer you live.
Happiness comes through doors you
didn't even know you left open.
Ever notice that the people who are late
are often much jollier
than the people who have to wait for them?
Most of us go to our grave
with our music still inside of us.
If Wal-Mart is lowering prices every day,
how come nothing is free yet?
You may be only one person in the world,
but you may also be the world to one person.
Some mistakes are too much fun
to only make once.
Don't cry because it's over;
smile because it happened.
We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
and all are different colors....but
they all exist very nicely in the same box.
A truly happy person is one who
can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
Have an awesome day, and
know that someone
who thinks you're great
has thought about you today!..
"And that person was me.".....
